GOLF FOR A PURPOSE
In 1975 a cancer diagnosis was essentially a death sentence for a child. CURE’s mission is to conquer childhood cancer in our lifetime by advancing innovative, lifesaving research so children can live their dreams. We also support families, addressing their urgent needs throughout treatment and beyond.
Thanks to continued research, survival rates have improved from just 20% in 1975 to 80% today. Still, 1 in 5 do not survive. And even when effective, current treatments are harsh and often leave survivors with life-long physical, emotional, and cognitive scars.
CURE is committed to funding innovative research that will ensure all children survive their diagnosis through less toxic treatments which will allow children a safe return to health. To accomplish this, CURE is investing $4 million annually at some of the top pediatric cancer research institutions – focusing on projects that will save lives, reduce side effects, and preserve lifetimes.
CURE’s highest priority is a precision medicine initiative, which brings individualized, gene-based treatment to children for whom traditional therapy fails. To that end, CURE made a $4.5 million commitment over three years for the development of the Aflac Cancer Center Precision Medicine Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. This award creates a truly cutting-edge program that exists in only a small handful of pediatric cancer centers across the country. Funding decisions are guided by CURE’s Scientific Advisory Council, a group of doctors and scientists who conduct a thorough review of research proposals in order to assess scientific merit and alignment with CURE’s goals.
